My plans to visit Taipei were finally taking a ferry. I was very much concerned about the pricing of the flight from Kuala Lumpur to Taipei. 

The first option that a booking website made me come across was China Airlines. But my last trip with China Airlines is the last thing I would want to have in mind right now. I wanted to enjoy a better experience without breaking the bank. And, the Starlux Airlines seemed like a perfect fit for my Kuala Lumpur travel budget.

It is headquartered in Taipei. The Taipei-based airlines have a successful track record of delivering customer satisfaction. Expect to have impeccably clean and value for money economy class experience on your flight from Kuala Lumpur to Taipei. My Starlux Airlines flight was pretty relaxing and rejuvenating. I would say Starlux Airlines surely lived up to exceptional service standards and market reputation.

Starlux Airlines

When this airline launched in 2018, it took the Taiwanese air market by storm. Starlux Airlines was founded by the former EVA Air company to change the reputation of the Taiwanese aviation industry and ensure a safe experience for travellers. 

Starlux Airlines was not launched to compete with the state-owned China Airlines for sure. The newer planes of Starlux Airlines do have an upper edge over China Airlines’ older aircraft, especially in intra-Asia.

China Airlines

My previous experience of travelling from Beijing to Bangkok on China Airlines was quite impressive. While booking flights for Starlux Airlines, I did feel that China Airlines served a more intensive network. 

However, the hype about Starlux Airlines is what made me book Starlux Airlines, but for a completely different route this time. Both China Airlines as well as Starlux Airlines have a parallel reputation. 

Starlux Airlines Review: Flights from KL To Taipei

Honestly, I was skeptical whether to book Starlux Airlines or not. This was due to my positive experience with China Airlines. I did not want to make a switch from China Airlines in the first place. 

But after my travel agent told me that I was getting a better deal if I booked a Starlux Airlines flight, that’s what hooked me. I gave it a lot of thought and did as he said. 

My trip to Taipei was a memorable one, thanks to my travel agent and his worthwhile recommendations.

Check-In Experience

This was my first flight aboard Starlux Airlines. I sat on the flight from Terminal 1 of Kuala Lumpur. 

The check-in for the Starlux Airlines flight opened 3 hours prior to the boarding time. I was greeted by hefty queue of passengers. 

First impressions make a difference, and my check-in experience went really well. I got boarding pass in no time. 

Their boarding began about 10 minutes late, but that did not look like an issue to me. Their ground staff ensured a warm vibe throughout. 

In-flight Experience

My inflight experience was beyond praiseworthy. All the Starlux Airlines attendants we met on our flight were obedient and friendly. They all knew English and Mandarin really well. 

The inflight supervisor greeted me very warmly when we first met our eyes. He addressed all the passengers with their names, which was really sweet of him. 

The seat I got was a window one, with no Airbus wing blocking my view. The 4-hour flight to Taipei from Kuala Lumpur was convincing enough for me to book Starlux Airlines in the future.

Seating Experience

A brief word on seat selection: Starlux Airlines divides the Economy Class seats into three different categories. 

Passengers can pick amongst forward seats, standard seats, and extra legroom seats. Starlux surely wins out here! Passengers need to pay extra for advance seat booking. It can range from $US10 to $US50. Passengers can pick their seats for free, except for the extra legroom seats, 48 hours prior to departure when they check in online. 

The seats were very nice to touch and I stretched out pretty conveniently. The armrests did not limit me from enjoying the air ride.

Cabin Crew Services

The flight attendants ensured everything went smoothly. The cabin crew team fulfilled passenger requests immediately. The aircraft was fully loaded, but I found their performance excellent. 

The language skills of Starlux Airlines’ cabin crew were top notch. The professionalism and punctuality of their cabin crew is surely a reason why people wish to travel with them again and again. 

Food And Beverage

The cabin crew presented us with mixed rice crackers shortly after take off. They even came around with a drink cart serving customers as per their needs. 

I was very hungry before as I did not get the time to have a meal before at the airport lounge. I had already selected my meal prior through their online meal pre-ordering service. 

And, I had the best meal on flight ever. I also ordered a peach sparkling mocktail with my hutong yakiniku meal. A satisfying experience indeed.

Entertainment Options

I enjoyed watching the chiselled jaw of Tom Cruise on a 13.3-inch touchscreen with 4K resolution, and I relished every bit of it. Anyone could easily notice the over-obsessed look on my face. 

The screen would easily enhance any economy-class passenger’s experience tenfold. What more! The inflight safety video also looked more interesting. 

There were 17 English-language movies to pick from. I enjoyed watching Tom Cruise in Top Gun. I felt they would need more movie options for longer-haul flights, though. 

There were also spare headphones that you could plug in. I rather picked the Bluetooth option and connected by Airpods.

Restrooms

The restrooms in Starlux Airlines were spacious too. There were four lavatories available for all passengers. They were nice. 

Starlux Airlines had dark coloured countertops. The taps in the restrooms were touchless. What surprised me the most was that the toilet lacked a bidet. The branded amenities further enhanced my Starlux Airlines economy class experience.

Conclusion: Is Starlux Airlines Worth It

In conclusion, my economy class Starlux Airlines experience to Taipei from Kuala Lumpur was worth every penny. I can say confidently that I won’t hesitate even a bit recommending this flight to my friends and family. 

I plan to board only Starlux Airlines when I am traveling to my next location in Asia. As a brilliant value for money option, Starlux Airlines delivered a terrific experience. The only thing they must work on is their English movies section. I can’t wait to board their business class next.
