Think fast! If you could book a flight to Tokyo from Singapore, which airline would you pick? The first airline that would pop into your head could be Japan Airlines. But as life would have it, the airfares of this Japanese airlines are now sky-high and definitely eye-watering.

There’s an affordable Japanese airline in town, so here’s our honest review of Air Japan, the low-cost carrier by ANA. The low-cost carrier, Air Japan, needs to be on your checklist.

Air Japan has actually been around since the 1990s but they only recently rebranded as a low-cost carrier option. Air Japan is basically an ANA subsidiary. It is flying as a low-cost carrier. This new airline is a competitive response to JAL’s ZipAir.

Air Japan has recently announced they would be running flights to Tokyo from Singapore at steal deal fares starting from $179. You can’t expect to have a First-Class experience for the price, but you’re for sure saving money on this flight.

Air Japan, Japan Airlines ZipAir, Scoot Compared

Based on honest customer reviews, we will help you pick what’s best for you:

ZipAir And Air Japan

Japan Air is a popular slang term for Japan Airlines or JL. Japan Airlines’ ZipAir is one low-cost carrier.

ZipAir and Air Japan are two of the most popular Japanese airlines that are renowned for their low-cost carrier services. ZipAir and Air Japan use repurposed 787s from their parent airlines, Japan Airlines and ANA. Travellers can expect a clean and functional flying experience with Air Japan by ANA and ZipAir by Japan Airlines.

According to the opinion of one traveller, ZipAir offers better value. They offer free on board wifi for WhatsApp and Instagram when you have a strong signal. Purchase ZipAir’s value package that is priced at S$60, and get free food, 30kg Checked luggage, as well as seat selection.

Scoot And Air Japan

Many people who have been traveling on Scoot for years expressed their elation of traveling with Air Japan. They claimed they made the right switch. Expect clean, new seats, toilets with bidets, better in-flight menu, type C and type A USB plugs amongst other services and amenities when you fly with Air Japan.

Air Japan planes are so much cleaner. They actually look like brand-new planes inside. Fast charging, phone holder to watch videos, and better food options for Singaporeans are some good reasons for Air Japan’s growing popularity over Scoot that only provides the normal cup noodle flavours from Singapore at S$6.

Air Japan provides 3 tier options. Every Tier is priced approximately +S$40 more compared to the previous Tier. For instance, Simple can be $200, Standard can be $240, and Selected can be $280.

  • Simple Tier with 7kg carry-on baggage.
  • Standard Tier with one into 23 kg checked baggage and low tier seats plus carry-on baggage.
  • Selected Tier with two into 23 checked baggage, select higher tier seats but does not include extra legroom seats, carry-on baggage, and food.

Scoot gives nothing. It charges S$45 to add checked luggage. You have to pay separately for seat selection as well as food on Scoot.

Customer Testimonials of Air Japan Flights

“We flew on NQ003 from NRT – SIN. The whole experience was mostly pleasant when it comes to budget-friendly airline standards. This new low-cost carrier by ANA is in a different league. It is very different from the likes of Jetstar, Air Asia, and more. Would I fly with them again? Certainly, if the price is right,” reviewed a new customer of Air Japan.

“Baggage prices would be labeled pretty reasonable. When you are sure you want a meal, the add-on that includes a meal, two pieces of baggage, and forward seat selection is an especially great deal. It’s best to buy when you are making a booking rather than after. It is recommended to avoid buying the meal at counter,” shared one Air Japan customer.

“Flying with too many fragile products? You would want to take an airline that offers fragile baggage tags for better peace of mind. Hope my review will guide you well,” shared another customer of Air Japan.
