Elon Musk

Elon Musk entered the scene in the early 2000s, creating a storm in the tech industry. From Tesla to AI, he has invested in some of the top companies in the world. Although involved in various companies, Tesla pushed him into the limelight. His vision for electric vehicles stood him apart from other investors. If you want to know more about his investments, read this post.

  • SpaceX

We are all familiar with Space Exploration Technologies Corporation, or SpaceX. The company was established in 2002 to transform space travel. It aims to create a technology to take humans to Mars, making space inhabitable.

SpaceX is an award-winning company. They have developed many interesting technologies that other companies couldn’t. One of their creations includes Falcon 1, a liquid-propellant rocket they sent to orbit, making the first company ever to do this.

In 2012, NASA signed a contract with SpaceX, mentioning that SpaceX would now transport astronauts to the International Space Station (ISS). SpaceX also makes for an important position in NASA’s Artemis program, worth $2.9 billion. NASA awarded another big contract in 2022 worth $1.15 billion.

  • PayPal

This may surprise many, but Musk is one of the co-founders of PayPal. Founded in 1999, PayPal was initially named X.com and served as an email payment service. After merging with Confinity, it changed its name to PayPal (PYPL). The merger happened a year after X.com was established, in 2001.

The next year, PayPal was acquired by eBay for $1.5 billion. Even at that time, Musk had 11.7% of the company’s stake, the highest among shareholders.

However, he later sold his shares. At present, he holds no shares in the company and has used the majority of its earnings to reinvest in other companies like SolarCity, SpaceX, and Tesla.

  • Tesla Motors

Even though he didn’t establish the company, Elon Musk’s name and Tesla go hand in hand. He joined the company in 2004 after funding it. By 2008, his designation changed to CEO from board member, and that was quite a win in his career.

Two years later, Tesla made an appearance on the NASDAQ stock exchange, where they announced their IP at $17. This was simply the beginning, and at one point, the stock even reached $400.

Made its name as one of the reputed and top car companies quickly, Tesla aims to mass-produce electric vehicles and promote sustainable transportation worldwide. Spanning years, Tesla kept on introducing new vehicles ranging from electric vehicles to semi-truck to family cars. Major companies like PepsiCo and United Parcel Service (UPS) have also used their semi-trucks, which is enough to focus on the quality they offer even to catch big brands’ attention.

  • DeepMind Technologies

This is another company that Musk is associated with. Musk has a deep interest in this company, an AI Company that started operating in 2010. Musk invested in this company as an angel investor, but later, in 2014, it was acquired by Google.

DeepMind combines reinforcement learning and deep learning. In 2012, they published a white paper to inform people about their technique.

In 2023, DeepMind was merged with Google’s Brain team to form Google DeepMind. They also integrated AI into Gmail, Search, and YouTube, pushing AI innovation forward. According to reports, Musk’s net worth in 2025 is $424.1 billion. He continues to invest in DeepMind to stay informed about the developments made. He is concerned that AI will overtake humans in the future.

  • The Boring Company

Musk founded a tunnel construction firm in 2017, naming it the Boring Company. He established it to solve traffic issues in the country. Instead of relying on above-ground roads, the company utilizes underground space. The goal is to reduce tunneling costs and improve efficiency.

2019 the Boring Company bagged a deal from the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors. Based on the agreement, they will construct the LVCC Loop, an underground tunnel beneath the Las Vegas Convention Centre. The project is worth $48.6 million and includes a pedestrian tunnel and three stations.

The Boring Company inaugurated the LVCC Loop in 2021. They have other projects in Las Vegas, California, and Hawthorne.

  • xAI

Among the other companies Musk launched or invested in, xAI is one of them. It is one of his newest ventures, launched in 2023. He started this company after ChatGPT entered the market. The goal is to create a similar AI using advanced technology.

xAI is in collaboration with X, which Musk also owns. They have created an AI chatbot for the platform called Grok. With the help of AI, xAI strives to enhance humanity’s understanding of the universe.

The Wall Street Journal states that xAI is currently valued at $50 billion.

  • Neuralink

With a completely different vision, Neuralink focuses on creating advanced brain-machine interfaces that link human brains to computers. In 2021, it secured funding worth $205 million from various investors.

Musk has big goals with Neuralink. He built the company to help people with brain injuries and reduce AI-related risks to humanity. At present, Neuralink doesn’t have many employees. Despite that, it is one of Musk’s important ventures and is expected to grow big.

Neuralink has already started implanting the technology in humans. Musk announced that the first operation took place in 2024. He informed us that the implantation was successful and that the person was doing well.

  • SolarCity

SolarCity was established in 2006. Although Musk’s cousins founded the company, he is one of the board members and provides financial backing.

SolarCity is also tech-oriented and in the same space that Musk has invested in. It specializes in creating and installing solar power systems for industrial, residential, and commercial customers.

In 2016, Tesla took over SolarCity, closing a deal at $2.6 billion, but Musk has informed that he was nowhere involved in the valuation process.

There is a reason why Elon Musk is a celebrated businessman. Through his innovation and investments, he has made tremendous progress. He has not only made huge investments but also founded many remarkable companies, which has helped him become one of the world’s richest people.
