D-Link’s 1080p surveillance camera wins iF Design Award 2020

Taiwanese electronics giant D-Link has another major achievement under its belt after one of its latest CCTV offerings won an iF Design Award at this year’s iteration of the ceremonious industry happening. Though, truth be told, that feat is markedly less impressive when you realize hundreds of other products did the same – this year alone. That isn’t to say the DCS-8526LH FHD Pan & Tilt Pro Wi-Fi Camera isn’t a technological marvel, naturally. After all, it did top its respective category picturesquely called Discipline: Product – TV/Cameras.

Honoring next-gen security solutions

Besides having a catchy name, the DCS-8526LH also boasts a wide variety of features including motion tracking, person detection, 360-degree coverage, panoramic view, infrared night vision, and automation support, among others. The surveillance camera first introduced at CES 2020 in Las Vegas also offers an impressive 340-degree viewing angle, IP65-certified resistance to dust particles and water (read: rain), glass breaking detection, physical privacy mode, and a speaker-siren combo complementing its intercom capabilities.

Compared to older CCTV products from D-Link, the DCS-8526LH manages to stand out due to its deep AI integrations and added emphasis on localized security. For example, many of the camera’s features utilizing neural networks are actually a result of on-device computing. Combined with extended ethernet support, 128-bit wireless encryption, and smart assistant capabilities compatible with both Amazon’s Alexa and Google Assistant, D-Link’s newest consumer-grade CCTV camera is one truly impressive-looking package which you can control from your smartphone because of course there’s an app for that.

The only thing that remains to be seen is how this well-rounded surveillance device does sales-wise. D-Link is already retailing the DCS-8526LH in many parts of the world, with the product being priced well above the entry-level range at $150. And of course, the best part is that the camera alone won’t do you much good if it isn’t connected to a compatible wireless screen like the Echo Show 5, further driving up the cost of this surveillance luxury.
