NewsbotStar Trek fans will be delighted to hear that the series is getting a new installation, and with some familiar characters. Depending on who you ask, Spock’s run as an officer of the U.S.S. Enterprise might be the best on the long-running list of Star Trek movies and shows. Therefore, it was probably an easy decision to find a way to film the next series with one of the show’s most popular and iconic characters.
Familiar characters will mix with new ones in a prequel setting
The TV show, called Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, will feature the fan-favorite officer, along with Captain Christopher Pike and Number One as fellow main characters. CBS All Access announced the series and revealed that its roster will include some familiar faces, with Anson Mount in the role of Pike, Rebecca Romijn as Number One and Ethan Peck as Spock. The show’s producers have also worked on Star Trek project before, meaning they’ll be charting known waters.
As for the waters the crew will be charting, the series will take place a decade before the U.S.S. Enterprise went afloat, and viewers can expect the show to live up to its title. The series is one of seven different Star Trek shows that are either currently airing or announced for production. Similar to competing networks, it appears that CBS All Access is looking to make the most out of a known franchise, although the pandemic might delay production, as no airing date has been set yet.
