A trio of Nier announcements from Square Enix left a vocal part of the online gaming community in a state of absolute ecstasy over the course of this week. Going by order of magnitude, we’re getting a remaster of the original cult classic straightforwardly named Nier Replicant ver. 1.22474487139, an entirely new spin-off for mobile devices, and a chance to experience Nier Automata in all of its PC glory for literal peanuts.

Nierly everything we could have wished for

Less than a month before the 10th anniversary of Nier’s release, Square Enix confirmed the long-rumored remaster that’s currently slated to launch on PC (via Steam), PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The short teaser attached herein alludes to some new characters being thrown into the mix, in addition to hinting at an expanded take on the original storyline – which itself ended up as a spin-off of the Drakengard franchise after evolving beyond the concept of a mere Drakengard 2 sequel. There’s no release date to speak of just yet, but the hope is Nier Replicant ver. 1.22474487139 will be out by the end of this anniversary year for the series, Square Enix representatives said.

Nier Remake 2

In the meantime, mobile gamers will be treated to an entirely new entry in the franchise called Nier Reincarnation, coming soon to Android and iOS. Details on this particular title are extremely scarce; the Japanese game maker’s announcement can pretty much be summed down to “it’s a fresh Nier adventure developed as a free-to-play experience with (*surely* entirely optional and totally not throat-shoving) microtransactions.

Finally, if you still don’t understand what all the fandom hype is about, you’re about to get by far the cheapest alternative to at last experience Nier Automata, the hit 2017 action RPG that’s still regarded as the pinnacle of the series. Namely, Nier Automata: Become as Gods Edition will join Microsoft’s portfolio of Xbox Game Pass titles this Thursday, April 2nd, together with exclusive side quests and never-before-seen outfits.

All in all, Nier fans appear to be in for quite a ride this year.
