Each category is tested using consistent, documented parameters.
If firmware, drivers, or OS versions differ from manufacturer defaults, we record and disclose those changes.

 

3. Data Collection and Verification

All test data is logged using timestamped templates. Results that fall outside expected variance are rechecked to rule out measurement errors.
We perform at least two complete test runs per product and average the results.

To ensure reproducibility:

  • All performance scripts are version-controlled.
  • Data files are stored with product identifiers and firmware versions.
  • Any anomalies (e.g., thermal throttling or battery drops) are noted in the published review.

We cross-reference performance data with independent sources (public databases, vendor disclosures, and open benchmarks) to confirm trends and detect manipulation.

 

4. Data Handling and Interpretation

Performance data is analyzed both quantitatively (numeric benchmarks, throughput, latency) and qualitatively (usability, ergonomics, stability).
Each metric is normalized against comparable devices in the same class.

Example:

  • Smartphone CPU benchmark scores are compared within ±6 months of release.
  • Display brightness and color accuracy are graded relative to category medians (e.g., DCI-P3 coverage, DeltaE < 2 = Excellent).
  • Battery endurance is expressed as continuous use hours based on real-world profiles, not pure rundown tests.

 

5. Product Sourcing and Test Duration

We prioritize purchasing products at retail to ensure fairness and eliminate cherry-picking.
When we accept manufacturer-supplied samples, the product is tested under identical conditions and returned after testing.
We never accept payments or incentives in exchange for favorable coverage.

  • Test duration: typically 7–14 days per device (longer for complex categories like routers or laptops).
  • Pre-release “hands-on” articles are clearly labeled and unrated until full testing is complete.

 

6. Scoring System

Every product is rated on a 1–5 scale, representing its overall performance, usability, and value for money.

Each score is based on weighted category sub-scores (Performance 40%, Design 20%, Features 20%, Value 20%) unless otherwise specified.

 

7. Updates and Retesting

Technology evolves, so do our reviews.
We retest or revise scores when:

  • Major firmware or OS updates change performance or features.
  • Driver optimizations significantly affect results.
  • A product’s price drops or new competitors alter its market position.

Each revision is time-stamped and labeled as Updated on [date] with a note summarizing what changed.

We maintain archived versions of previous scores for transparency and auditability.
