The industry which was previously ruled by Japanese, European, and American cars now belong to Chinese brands and the shift is noticeable because more Malaysians look for modern, feature-rich vehicles at budget-friendly prices.
These brands offer stylish designs, impressive technology, and competitive prices, making them hard to ignore and an appealing choice for many buyers. That being said, let’s walk you through the top Chinese car brands already in Malaysia and a few to come soon.
Which Chinese Car Brand is in Malaysia 2025?
BYD (Build Your Dreams)
Ruling the world of electric vehicles, BYD is represented by Sime Darby Motors in Malaysia, and offers a range of models, and some popular ones are Seal, Dolphin, and Atto 3, all of them known for their sleek design, great performance, and competitive pricing.
Chery
After a brief hiatus, Cherry returned to the local market in 2022 with more focus on stylish product line-up and launched models like Jaecoo (J7), Tiggo (7 Pro, 8 Pro), Jetour (X70 Plus, Dashing), and a few more, all of them with eye-catching designs and modern features.
Chery Omoda
Though Omoda started as a model line under Chery in Malaysia, it has evolved into a brand in its own right and launched models like the Omoda E5 and Omoda 5, both known for their high-end features and sharp design.
Jaecoo
Jaecoo, a new name in Malaysia’s automotive scene, is part of the Chery family and offers luxury vehicles with futuristic designs like no other. They debuted with the J7, a stylish SUV built for city and adventure use, and then moved to the C9, a more premium option for those who want an SUV coupe.

Jetour
Jetour, a Chery subsidiary, aims to make a mark in Malaysia with a few of their top models being shown at Malaysia Autoshow. While Jetour operates independently from Chery’s other branches, it’s still part of the same automotive group and offers models like X90 Plus, T2, and X70 FL, each better than the other in terms of performance and features.
GWM (Great Wall Motors)
GWM has been around in Malaysia for many and restructured their operations under Great Wall Motors Malaysia just recently.
They have many sub-brands, including the Ora line, offering EVs like the 07 and the Good Cat, two of the most stunning models you will ever see. Other options worth mentioning are Tank 300, Cannon (Ultra), and Haval (H6 Hybrid), all with diverse designs.
GAC Motor
Founded by China’s GAC Group in 2010, it operates under the name GAC Trumpchi in China, but internationally it’s known as GAC Motor. The company entered the Malaysian market by partnering exclusively with WTC Automotif (M) Sdn Bhd, a company under the Tan Chong Group.
In Malaysia, GAC Motor has already introduced models like the GS3 EMZOOM compact SUV and the M8 PHEV, a plug-in hybrid MPV.
GAC Aion
GAC also runs a separate brand for electric vehicles called GAC Aion. The AION Y Plus and AION ES are Aion models now available in Malaysia. For premium electric options, GAC Aion’s Hyptec brand will soon bring the Hyptec HT to the Malaysian market.
MG
MG is a historic British car brand that became part of SAIC Motor, a major state-owned carmaker from China, in 2007. The brand’s official entry into Malaysia is managed by SAIC Motor Malaysia Sdn Bhd, covering all aspects of sales, distribution and support nationwide. Malaysian drivers can now find a variety of MG models on the market, including the MG Cyberster, MG5, MG HS, as well as electric cars like the MG4 EV, MGS5 EV, and MG ZS EV.
Geely
Geely, one of China’s most successful carmakers, has made a name for itself in Malaysia already and is famous for its innovative designs and high-quality vehicles. They launched popular models like Coolray, GX3 Pro, and Emgrand GS, each car a hit among local drivers mainly because of how comfortable they are. The e.MAS 7, launched in Malaysia on December 16, 2024, was the first EV from Proton and Geely’s partnership. The e.MAS 5 is planned for release in late 2025.
BAIC
Though BAIC is a new entry in the Malaysian automotive scene, they have created a buzz already and are waiting to launch two SUV models, including X55 and BJ40 Plus. These models will be imported as fully built-up units, but there are plans to assemble them locally shortly.
Xpeng
Xpeng, a rising star in the Chinese EV market has now debuted in Malaysia with their local distribution being handled by Bermaz Auto, the same company behind brands like Mazda in the country. Known for their sleek designs and high-tech features, Xpeng offers a wide range of models, including G6, G9, P7, and X9, all of them equipped with premium technology and ruling the EV market in Malaysia.
Zeekr
Zeekr, the luxury electric arm of Geely debuted in Malaysia through a partnership with Sentinel Automotive and targets customers who prefer a mix of style, comfort, and innovation. They launched Zeekr 009 and Zeekr X, both models equipped with high-end features and ready to shake up the premium EV market in Malaysia.
Leapmotor
Leapmotor started operations in 2015, but has grown into a well-known brand both in China and Malaysia mainly because of its high-performance electric vehicles that are equipped with smart technology and sold at affordable prices. They expanded their international plans after being acquired by Stellantis and entered the Malaysian market in 2024. They offer models like T03 and C10 for people who need a reliable and affordable EV for everyday use.
Neta
Neta is managed by GoAuto Group and entered the Malaysian market just last year. It has launched two EV models, including the Neta X SUV and Neta V hatchback, both of which offer modern features and that also at an affordable price. With its eye-catching design and budget-friendly options, Neta has emerged as a solid EV contender in a short time.
DFSK (Dongfeng Sokon)
Dongfeng, one of China’s oldest and most respected state-owned car companies, is represented in Malaysia through a company linked with PEKEMA and offers budget-friendly EVs to urban drivers. The main EV model Dongfeng offers in Malaysia is the Dongfeng Box, also known as the Nammi 01. Some of its other popular models include the Dongfeng A9, Dongfeng E-Star, and Dongfeng EQ140, each designed for style, comfort, and performance.
Maxus
Maxus is known for its reputation in the commercial vehicle market and a top choice for businesses and logistics companies, who need strong, rugged vehicles for heavy-duty use. JMC
Jiangling Motors Corporation (JMC) is one of the major automotive brands from China, with years of experience in producing commercial vehicles. JMC’s entry into the Malaysian market is led by Angka-Tan Motor (ATM), a member of the Tan Chong Group. The ATM-JMC partnership began in 2020, resulting in local production of the Vigus Pro and establishing JMC’s CKD presence in Malaysia.
JAC
JAC Motors, headquartered in Hefei, China, is a Chinese automaker with a long history, dating back to 1964. The brand is best known for offering dependable commercial vehicles and light trucks. Here, JAC’s lineup includes electric light trucks like the i90, i75, and i40, as well as ICE trucks such as the N-Series N50, N80, and N120.
Deepal
Deepal, an EV brand focuses on clean energy vehicles and combines stylish designs with advanced technology to offer a unique driving experience to people. TQ WULING

Xiaomi
